"What's your joy or concern for today?"

- Mrs. C, "Family Meeting"

Hello!

Welcome to the family! This is a place of acceptance, love, & learning! Each student brings a unique light to our classroom! In our classroom, we are a family that shows respect, compassion, encouragement, and support to each other. We are all on the same team! It's a great joy to see the students embrace this mindset and start to look out for each other! With a "you first" mindset, the students learn how to think about others and consider those around you.

Behavior Policy

We have a behavior plan in place that will be used when classroom norms are not followed. In D206, we use a color system. Each color has different meanings. A description for each color is as follows:

Pink: Rockstar!

When a student has gone above and beyond expectations multiple times in a day, they move to pink and get a reward! This is for OUTSTANDING behavior.

Purple: AWESOME!

When a student has gone above and beyond expectations, they move to purple and get a reward! This is for OUTSTANDING behavior.

Green: GREAT!

Students start at green every day. If they stay on green, they are doing a great job following classroom norms.

Yellow: OK.

After one verbal warning, students move to yellow. This helps remind a student to “check themselves” and get back on track for the day.

Red: Phone Call Home

This is the final offense for breaking a classroom norm. A phone call will be made explaining the child’s actions.

Words Their Way

Students will be placed into differentiated groups and will learn spelling patterns, phonics, and vocabulary through the use of word sorts. This takes place during word work time and Reader's Workshop.

Reader's Workshop

This part of the day focuses on literacy centers and applying comprehension strategies taught through mini lessons. Students will also be pulled for guided reading during this time.

Writer's Workshop

We have adopted Lucy Calkin’s Writer’s Workshop curriculum. Writer’s workshop consists of a mini lesson, independent writing, teacher conferences, and sharing. Students are encouraged to use their own lives as inspiration for their writing.

Math Workshop

EnVision covers grade appropriate skills that are aligned with new common core state standards. Students will use multiple strategies and manipulatives to solve math problems.
